DAVID BIRNBAUM

David Birnbaum is a philosophical writer, conceptual theorist, historical chronicler and editor.

# universal secular philosophy & Jewish religious philosophy:

Birnbaum is known globally as “the architect of Potentialism Theory” – a unified philosophy/cosmology/metaphysics. The paradigm-challenging theory – presented through three prisms – is delineated in Birnbaum’s 4-volume Summa Metaphysica series (1988, 2005, 2014, 2020).  See Summa1000.com.

A riposte to Summa Theologica of (St.) Thomas Aquinas, the (original) Birnbaum treatise challenges both the mainstream Western philosophy of Aristotelianism as well as the well propped-up British/atheistic cosmology of Randomness.

The Summa Metaphysica series was the focus of an international academic conference on Science & Religion April 16-19, 2012  at BARD College (see Conference1000.com).

The focus of over 150 reviews and articles, Summa Metaphysica has been an assigned Course Text at over 15 institutions of higher learning globally. The work has been very widely covered globally. (see SummaCoverage.com for 100+ articles on the series as well as the Course Text institutions.

The first volume of the Summa series, God and Evil (KTAV, 1988) is considered by many to be a breakthrough modern day classic in the field of religious philosophy and of theodicy, in particular. See also GodOfPotential.com

#  editor, Jewish thought & spirituality:

David Birnbaum is the conceptualizer and Editor-in-Chief of the Mesorah Matrix series on Jewish thought and spirituality. The series spans 10-volumes with 10 respective themes and includes 200+ original pieces from 150+ global Jewish thought leader essayists. See Mesorah1000.com.

#  historical chronicler and author:

In the history realm, David Birnbaum is the author/chronicler of the 2-volume The Crucifixion – of the Jews. The 2-volume set (published in 2009) traces a direct trajectory from the Canon Gospels in the First Century to Auschwitz in the Twentieth. In November 2019, ten years after the publication of The Crucifixion,  the Church of England / Anglican Communion issued a major document/report “God’s Unfailing Word” – which accepted/confirmed many of the key thrusts of the (highly-controversial) Birnbaum frontal challenge to the Church of a decade prior. See Crucifixion1000.com.

The inter-related Birnbam history series is his 7-volume Jews, Church and Civilization. See Civilization1000.com.

# faculty & education

David Birnbaum has served on the faculty of the New School for Social Research in Manhattan. He is a graduate of Yeshiva of Forest Hills (Dov Revel), Yeshiva University High School (MTA), City College of New York (CCNY), and Harvard.
